Toxics in Breastmilk: Explaining the Importance of Breastfeeding and the Concerns About PBDEs to New Moms

PBDEs and other harmful chemicals are found in humans and breastmilk. This is sad but true.

But it's also very important to know that breastfeeding protects the health of mothers and babies. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, breastfeeding reduces a child's risk of many illnesses, promotes optimal brain and immune development, and reduces a mom's risk of breast cancer.

WOMEN SHOULD CONTINUE TO BREASTFEED
AND INSIST THAT PBDEs BE BANNED.

Within Reach (formerly Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition of Washington State) created a breastfeeding educational brochure explaining the issue of toxic flame retardants (PBDEs) in breastmilk. This brochure was produced with the financial support and expert knowledge of the Toxic Free Legacy Coalition.

Brochure in pdf formats (English and Spanish)

Breastmilk: Protection for Your Baby (pdf)

La Leche Materna: Proteteccion para Su Bebe (pdf).
